Introduction to Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)

Wednesday, June 24
Noon - 1 p.m. PDT

Register to attend online via Zoom

This EMSL LEARN webinar will introduce retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), an emerging design pattern of large language model (LLM)-based development that has shown to improve accuracy and address key challenges of hallucination, provenance, and knowledge updates in AI.

Speaker Sumit Purohit, a data scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), will discuss motivation, key components, software stack, and evaluation metrics. He will also introduce PNNL-developed agentic capabilities to explore as part of future EMSL LEARN webinars.

Attendees will gain key knowledge about:

  • How different science and technology domains leverage summarization, reasoning, and conversation capabilities of LLMs while addressing accuracy and precision challenges

  • How scientists can set up their personal assistant using relevant papers and documents
