Opportunities to use EMSL resources

EMSL resources are available to researchers on a pay by usage basis. 

Contracted time

Contracted time refers to requests to use designated time available on instruments outside of EMSL’s advertised calls for proposals. Access does not include EMSL staff support for instrument operation or analysis. Teams must either demonstrate sufficient expertise to operate instruments without assistance or special supervision as determined by the instrument scientist or provide funding via a contract mechanism (PNNL charge code or subcontract number) to cover EMSL staff support requested after the initial orientation. An hourly cost will be associated with some instrument usage. For expert users conducting routine, publishable research EMSL will continue to provide site and safety training. Access is granted for up to one fiscal year or the contract period as appropriate.

Proprietary proposals

Proprietary proposals are required for business-sensitive or proprietary research where results are not intended to be published. Researchers who do not intend to publish results and request their information to be kept as business sensitive or proprietary must provide a contract mechanism.
