Reactivity of bridging Oxygens on the Pyrophyllite 110 and 1-10 edge faces

EMSL Project ID
1719

Abstract

The structure and eactivity of clay edge surfaces is a fundamental importance for environmental chemistry. Various models have been proposed, but experimental evidence to distinguish between these models is difficult to obtain. We believe we have experimental evidence to confirm certain aspects of one particular model of clay edge structure and reactivity, and we would like to perform theoretical calculations to see whether they fit with our results.
