FESEM Analysis of Reversible Gels

EMSL Project ID
1905

Abstract

CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION (PLEASE DO NOT USE ON THE EMSL WEB SITE): We have developed novel polymers based on poly(lactic acid-co-glycolic acid)-poly(ethylene glycol) . These polymers form reversible hydrogels. SEM studies would aid in assesment of the gel structure. We would like to verify the hypothesis of phase separation and micell formation. Aqueous solutions of the novel polymers are free flowing at room temperature and become gels at 370C in a few seconds, indicating promising biomaterials for advanced drug delivery and tissue engineering. The basic principle of sol-to-gel transition is a change in molecular association caused by changes in temperature, pH, and solvent. SEM studies would aid in assesment of the gel structure.
