Molecular Level Construction of Functional Surfaces

EMSL Project ID
19790

Abstract

The objective of the proposed work is to develop procedures for molecular level construction of layers of hybrid organic inorganic composites exhibiting divergent, but useful properties. Examples of divergent properties include active catalytic regions embedded in super inert organic matrices, combined hydrophilic-superhydrophobic domains, transparent-strong light absorbing local patterns, etc. The new materials could find applications in environmentally benign catalysis, natural hydrocarbon energy resources processing, protective (chemical, biological) surfaces, electronic materials and sensors.
