Effects of Polymer Processing Techniques on Free Radical Concentration

EMSL Project ID
2186

Abstract

This proposed project will support a currently funded DOE contract to UTRC on Polymer Dispersed Metal Hydrides for Hydrogen Storage. The objective for the proposed collaborative study will be to process several polymers using a variety of techniques (thermal spray, mechanical grinding, melting, etc.) and to evaluate the effect of these processes on the resulting free radical concentration in the samples. UTRC will provide the processed polymer samples to EMSL, and it is proposed that EMSL use continuous wave EPR techniques to quantify the free radical amounts.
