Microscopic characterization of sampling inlet penetration efficiency for DOE G-1 Research aircraft.

EMSL Project ID
3052

Abstract

A new particle sampling system was recently deployed and characterized on the DOE G-1 research aircraft. One aspect of the tests involved simultaneous sampling of PM onto TEM grids both inside and outside the aircraft in order to assess penetration efficiencies of the new system. This work involves the analysis of TEM grids to determine the number size distribution of non-volatile species on the simultaneous grid samples. The PNNL operates G-1 aircraft as a DOE research aircraft facility to serve atmospheric scientists at DOE and other feceral, state and industrial laboratories in carrying out airborne research.
