Abstract
PNNL/UW's Joint Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology is offering a 2-week intensive course on nanotechnology. The course will be taught by PNNL staff and will utilize the equipment in the EMSL for hands-on instruction. The overview course will include electron shell and metallic droplet models, nanocluster generation, electronic structure, molecular to bulk transition, nonmetal to metal transitions, charge doping high-T superconductors, nano-ice films, Stern-Gerlach experiments and magnetic clusters, discovery of C60 and properties of carbon nanotubes and chemical reactivity.This course is supported in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation and supports the educational mission of both the EMSL and the Lab's JIN.
