Radiation-induced Property Changes in Magnetic Materials

Abstract
The execution of this proposal will advance the state of science regarding the effects of ionizing radiation on the magnetic structure of nanoparticle, granular nanocluster film, and spin glass materials. The objectives of this proposed research are (1) to enhance the current understanding of magnetic material interactions with nuclear radiation, in general, and develop a fundamental understanding of irradiation-induced modification in magnetic properties of granular films, in particular, (2) to generate data for scientific assessment and prediction of the material performance in radiation environments, (3) to identify and recommend candidate compositions for development of novel radiation detection devices, and (4) to provide future research directions in the area.
