3-D Active Site Distribution and Porosity in Microporous Materials

EMSL Project ID
49093

Abstract

The aim of this proposal is to build upon our initial success in the exploration of the 3-D location and distribution of the Al and Si atoms in highly relevant and active microporous catalysts, with the aim of directly correlating the distribution of its constituting elements with the catalytic activity of the molecular sieve, being it a zeolite or a microporous silicon-aluminophosphate (SAPO). The key hypothesis is that long-term catalyst deactivation is related to the atomic-level distribution of Si in the aluminophosphate structure, including the formation and redistribution of the Si islands. To address this we will utilize fresh and spent large SAPO-34 materials that have been thoroughly characterized by other methods.
