Structure of Holo-PSII from Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

EMSL Project ID
51850

Abstract

Photosystem II (PSII) is a multi-subunit thylakoid membrane protein that catalyzes a unique reaction in nature. The most highly active form of this enzyme is a dimeric form that has multiple membrane-extrinsic proteins bound to its lumenal surface which optimize its chemistry. To date, high resolution structures of PSII have been missing one or more of these subunits. In this project, we aim to determine a high-resolution structure of the full Photosystem II complex, including extrinsic proteins, from the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803.
