1000 Soils Research Campaign
EMSL Project ID
60141
Abstract
To more fully understand the cycling of carbon, carbon-based nutrients and key elements from the molecular to basin scale across variations in soil chemistry, the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory seeks to analyze soils from watersheds across the US and form a interoperable database of standardized measurements using EMSL’s mass spectrometry, tomography, and soil chemistry capabilities. EMSL is seeking collaborators to propose sites/samples to include as part of an effort to collect, curate and analyze 1000 soil water extracts in a pilot of the effort. The intent is to create an on-going sampling network generating a sustained and growing database of molecular-based watershed analyses to provide a more complete model of nutrient and contaminant cycling that watersheds play in ecosystem responses to perturbations.
