TEAMS - Trial Ecosystems for the Advancement of Microbiome Science

EMSL Project ID
60567

Abstract

A primary goal of the TEAMs project is to optimize the Soil EcoFAB devices to accommodate goals of the soil microbiome scientific community. We have made significant progress advancing the Soil EcoFAB devices based on input from soil microbiome scientists. We conducted two listening sessions, one internal to PNNL that included scientists across the Earth and Biological Sciences Directorate and EMSL, the second with our Soil EcoFAB ring trail participants. Based on input from the user community, we optimized the Soil EcoFAB device to include multiple spatial structures, be amenable to microscopy and have the ability to manipulate moisture conditions. Through our meetings with ring trial participants, we prioritized experimental features and assays to best serve the communities interests. We established a Slack channel for communication and have established Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs) for sending inoculated Soil EcoFABs to ring trial participants. The team at PNNL is in the final stages of optimizing the Soil EcoFAB device and MSC-2 community members and prototyping ring trial experiments based on participant input. The goal of this project is to run mirror experiments at different laboratories and compare results. EMSL resources will be used to process samples from collaborator groups and compare results.
