Electron microscopy imaging and analyses of signs of iron toxicity found in the macrophages of the cardiac tissue
EMSL Project ID

Abstract
Sudden blockage of coronary artery is a common cause of heart attacks (myocardial infarction, MI). The team of Prof. Rohan Dharmakumar at the Indiana University School of Medicine conduct a NIH-funded study on investigation of events that can lead to adverse remodeling of the heart of MI area. Based on their previous collaboration, Alice has been asked to provide TEM imaging of the cell culture samples at the microscale level, to support the hypothesis of toxicity of Fe released from the red blood cells, depositing in the cardiac cell macrophages. Cell culture will be processed and imaged and analyzed by TEM and STEM.This project (Alice’s labor) will be fully funded by the NIH grant.
