Agile Biofoundry FY24-25

EMSL Project ID
61048

Abstract

This proposed EMSL Staff time proposal assists the DOE-EERE-BETO supported PNNL project: FY24-25 seven-national laboratory Agile BioFoundry (https://agilebiofoundry.org/). PNNL’s effort for this project includes the analytical work proposed in this Staff time proposal as well as strain development at the BSEL which will support Task 4 of the FY24-25 ABF plan. The objective of the multi-lab project is to continue improving a distributed Synthetic Biology Foundry (known as the Agile BioFoundry, ABF), through a consortium of seven national laboratories. The ABF helps to accelerate the U.S. sustainable biomanufacturing sector by integrating advanced biological engineering with computing, overall process analysis, and scale-up leading. This effort will establish a differentiated and unique capability that will enable BETO to meet its goals for more cost-effective production of bio-based fuels and products through a 40% increase in efficiency of biological process development and a 50% reduction in time-to-market. This EMSL project will provide analytical results from leading edge analytical biology, both GC and LC mass spectrometry and 13C metabolic flux analysis (13C-MFA).
