Mesopore uniformity and hydrothermal stability of silica thin films for high permeabilty applications
EMSL Project ID
9798
Abstract
Thin film OMSs were prepared using several organic templates that provide a range of ordering in the films. Results indicate that ordered mesoporous domains within the film promote uniformly thicker pore walls that increase hydrothermal stability by reducing the number of ?weakest links,? while the orientational disorder of those domains simultaneously promotes the high permeabilities needed for thin film sensor applications. A quantitative mechanical model is used to describe the dependence of the mechanical stability on the pore size and wall thickness, and its relationship to hydrothermal stability is discussed.
