Contracted Time
Submit ProposalContracted time refers to requests to use designated time available on instruments outside of EMSL’s advertised calls for proposals and does not include EMSL staff support for instrument operation or analysis. Teams must either demonstrate sufficient expertise to operate instruments without assistance or special supervision, as determined by the instrument scientist, or plan to provide funding via a contract mechanism (PNNL charge code or subcontract number) to cover EMSL staff support requested beyond the initial orientation. An hourly cost may apply for certain instrument usage. For expert users conducting routine, publishable research, EMSL will continue to provide site and safety training as part of onboarding. Access is granted for up to one year or the duration of the contract period, depending on the specific agreement. The research should involve well-established techniques in which EMSL has proven capability and established workflows.
Time on the following instruments is available to contract.
Review criteria
Contracted time proposals undergo a technical evaluation to ensure the proposal only involves well-established techniques in which EMSL has proven capability and established workflows. Proposals are also reviewed for worker safety, health, environmental, biological, radiological, export control, and counter-intelligence concerns.
