Jason Toyoda
Earth Scientist

Jason Toyoda is an Earth scientist with EMSL's Biomolecular Pathways Integrated Research Platform. Toyoda works closely with biological high-resolution mass spectrometry, and he works mainly with soils, extracting organic compounds and molecules that are locked within the samples. He compares soils from different regions to understand nutrient cycling and biogeochemical processes within them. Toyoda is leading the sample preparation team for the Molecular Observation Network, which involves coordinating staff who are receiving soil cores/samples and conducting extractions and measurements.

Research Interests

  • Microbial soil activity
  • Characterization of organic carbon profiles of soil between different regions
