Yasin Torres-Tiji

UEC Member - Postdoctorate User Representative

Yasin Torres-Tiji is a member of EMSL's User Executive Committee and a postdoctoral researcher at Colorado School of Mines. He earned his PhD in molecular biology from UC San Diego, studying algal biotechnology in the Mayfield Lab where he developed novel algal synthetic promoters and high-cell-density bioreactors to optimize recombinant protein production. He then joined the Posewitz Lab at Colorado School of Mines where he uses climate-simulating photobioreactors to study how algal strains perform under field-relevant conditions.

Yasin's research goal is to develop an algal systems and synthetic biology program that integrates climate-simulating cultivation systems, EMSL-enabled multiomics, and machine learning to elucidate the connections between genotype and phenotype. These insights guide metabolic engineering strategies that are implemented through synthetic biology to enhance the productivity of photosynthetic organisms for sustainable biomanufacturing.
