X-ray Powder Diffraction Study of Fe2O3-Mn2O3 Phase Diagram

EMSL Project ID
11693

Abstract

This study will examine phase development, and determine phase boundaries, in the Fe2O3-Mn2O3 binary phase diagram using x-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The XRPD portion of this study will involve in-situ phase analysis at high temperatures using the Special Applications XRD system in EMSL. Sample materials will also be subjected to isothermal heat treatment, followed by ex-situ phase analysis by XRPD. The results of this research will be used to model the Fe2O3-Mn2O3 phase diagram and predict the behavior of waste glasses that include these materials.
