Lignin content in natural fibers utilizing flourescence microscopy (LDRD PNNL SCOPE 90001, WBS 24IN241029: NATURAL FIBER SURFACE MODIFICATION)

EMSL Project ID
12300

Abstract

Wood is a complex heterogeneous macromolecule consisting of naturally occuring polymers (cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin) and extractives. The basis of this work is to determine the fiber lignin content, and more imporantly the location of lignin clusters that may exist within the fiber wall. This research has not been carried out before on Hemp and Kenaf fibers, the two fibers proposed for this study.
