Study of Some Specific Inclusions in a Garnet Matrix Using High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM)
EMSL Project ID
12703
Abstract
Proposal for use of the High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HRTEM) at the EMSL, PNNL.The host will be Dr. Chongmin Wang.
We propose (Dr M. Grant Norton and Maxime Guinel, from the Washington State University, Pullman, WA) to investigate the structural relationships between some needles that are present in a garnet matrix giving rise to an effect called asterism.
The TEM samples have been prepared using conventional techniques and we have already identified the phases present in the samples. However, we do not have a HRTEM. We wish to obtain HR images of these included needles themselves as well as their interfaces with the matrix.
We will also make use of electron diffraction techniques to better characterize our sample. The work proposed is most likely to be realized within one day of use of the HRTEM.
I am flexible on the date, but will need to have some results by February 02.
We wish to thank you in advance for letting us use the equipment.
Sincerely,
Maxime Guinel
