Development of High Q Head

EMSL Project ID
14594

Abstract

We are currently in the process of designing and constructing a high performance Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer. One of the necessary components of the instrument is a High Q head which generates the necessary RF voltages needed for the quadrupole ion guide. The ion guide transfers ions from the source region of the instrument to the ICR cell for detection. We are developing novel methods for ion accumulation and transfer to FTICR mass spectrometry using multipole ion guides. We would like to take advantage of the extensive knowledge and experience of the Instrumentation Development Laboratory at EMSL to help develop our own High Q head for our instrument. This will generate the RF voltages needed for the development of our novel ion guide.
