Oxidation Study of Carbon Fiber Surfaces

EMSL Project ID
1558

Abstract

Phase one: Use of XPS and SIMS for studying the amount of oxidation that has been performed on various carbon fiber samples. Knowing qualitative and quantitative information about the fiber surfaces will greatly improve the knowledge of what extent phase two will need to do and improve upon. Phase two: Use of XPS and SIMS for studying self-assembled-monolayers that are attached to the different oxidized sites on the carbon fiber surface. Qualitative and quantitative information would be useful in understanding the quality of the work being performed in our applied research.
