Post-translational modifications of High Mobility Group proteins

Abstract
Use MS to identify sites and types of post-translational modifications of several high mobility grop proteins. Use various tandem mass spec instruments available to precisely identify specific residues that are modified. Proteins were purified from celular extracts using RP-HPLC. Initial characterization of tryptic digests are the proteins using MALDI MS at WSU suggests that there are sites of methylation, acetylation, and phosphorylation on these proteins. Yet pinning down specific sites and types of modifications is difficult without use of a tandem MS. Total of 6 proteins needto be immediately analyzed with 2 more in near future. The tryptic digests of all the proteins are complete and ready for analysis.
