Infrared Spectra of Nitric Acid

EMSL Project ID
1632

Abstract

High resolution spectra will be recorded of nitric acid in the 5-8 micron spectral range. The spectra will be used to obtain absolute rovibrational line intensities for a number of vibrational bands in this spectral interval. The spectral resolution required is the maximum obtainable by the EMSL Brucker Fourier Transform Spectrometer (FTS) which is about 0.0013 wave numbers. The results will hopefully clarify the large discrepancies which exist in the literature for the intensities of these bands and should provide better retrieved atmospheric concentrations.
