High Resolution Infrared Spectroscopy of Acetaldehyde

EMSL Project ID
1633

Abstract

We have recorded the nu10 torsional band of acetaldehyde at 509 wavenumbers using the pulsed slit-jet, tunable diode laser spectrometer at the EMSL located at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The spectrometer provides a cooled molecular beam at 10K of acetaldehyde and the laser system records the spectrum at sub-Doppler rotational resolution. Cooling of the spectrum provides enormous simplification of the spectrum which advances the torsional vibrational analysis of this molecule. Experimental work was done at EMSL and data analysis is being done at NIST using programs written by Drs. Kleiner and Moruzzi.
