Surface Analysis of Carbide Catalysts

EMSL Project ID
1658

Abstract

Metalized carbon nanotubes are proposed as catalyst materials for hydrocarbon processing. Activity and selectivity of these materials is dependent on the distribution and nature of the metals on the carbon surfaces. We propose using the EMSL surface analysis capabilities to evaluate the metalized nanotube catalyists produced under the DOE Technology Vision 2020 project. Analyses to be performed will include high resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), high resolution Auger spectroscopy, and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS). Instrumentation will be operated at conditions commonly used in the EMSL, with no unusual requirements.
