Surface Structure Analysis of Hematite Thin Films Grown by MBE Technique

EMSL Project ID
1703

Abstract

This proposed activity will focus on the the preparation of hematite thin films using the MBE system in EMSL and the characterization of surface structures of the as-deposited thin films utilizing transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The latter portion of the work will be performed in Department of Materials Science and Enigineering, Northwestern University. The samples deposited by MBE on suitable substrates should be as thick as possibe with all possible orientations. Bulk structural defects, surface steps, and effects of gas treatments on the surface structures of all possible orientation hematite will be investigated by TEM (including electron diffraction and high resolution imaging).
