Test mass characterization for precision gravitational tests

EMSL Project ID
17290

Abstract

In order to accurately characterize the test masses used in our worl-leading tests of the gravitational inverse-square law at the University of Washington, we must know the surface roughness and dimensions of our pieces very precisely. In order to perform these detailed measurement, we request use of the interferometrtic profilometer at your facility. With this level of characterization, we will be able to investigate novel scenarios that may answer some of the most intriguing questions in physics that concern the nature and dynamics of our universe.
