The growth and characterization of Ce1-xZrxO2 films
EMSL Project ID
1767
Abstract
The growth of Ce1-xZrxO2 films will be investigated. The films will be grown by plasma assisted molecular beam epitaxy and chemical vapor deposition. The doping of ceria with zirconium has been shown to strongly influence the oxygen storage properties of these materials. The optimum amount of zirconium and the relationship between surface structure is still poorly understood. These studies plan to address these fundamental issues by growing a variety of compositions on ZrO2(111) substrates, and growing identical compositions on ZrO2(001) substrates. The reducibility of these films will be determined using XPS and MSRI. Finally, the effect of the substrate choice on the reducibility of these films will be compared for films grown on ZrO2(001) and SrTiO3(001).
