Trace impurites in graphite crucible used for advanced detector materials synthesis

EMSL Project ID
17790

Abstract

Trace metal impurities in advanced detector materials may limit performance. In many instances the source of these impurities is unknown. One possible source of trace metal impurities in the production of Ge and CZT detector materials is the ultra-pure graphite used to make crucibles used in the production of these materials. The objective of this study is to test the application of super critical fluid extraction to further purify graphite used in these crucibles. THe ToF-SIMS at EMSL will be used to verify the presence of trace impurities that will be quantified using dynamic SIMS.
