Infrared Spectra of HCN at Low Temperatures
EMSL Project ID
18898
Abstract
The scientific return from Cassini and other missions to the outer planets will be enhanced by improving fundamental knowledge of the spectroscopic parameters in the 14-μm bands of hydrogen cyanide (HCN) which are prominent in the IR spectrum of Titan’s atmosphere. Spectroscopic parameters for these molecular bands are not well known at Titan temperatures (70 – 200 K). These uncertainties impact Titan atmospheric radiative transfer models and remote sensing retrievals. The Bruker IFS 120HR spectrometer will be used to record high-resolution IR laboratory spectra of N2-broadened HCN using coolable sample cells.
Multispectrum analysis will determine line broadening and shift parameters and their temperature dependences, as well as line intensities.
