Visualization of a Pd-Au{100} Catalyst: a Scanning Tunneling Microscopy Study

EMSL Project ID
19399

Abstract

Our objective is to use a UHV variable temperature STM to investigate a fabricated Pd-Au(100) surface alloy system. We plan to exploit both the microscopic and spectroscopic capabilities of an STM at cryogenic temperatures to understand how the structure and composition of the Pd-Au surface alloy changes the physical and chemical properties of its constituent elements with respect to the oxyacetylation catalytic process. We intend to take a step towards bridging the gap between the fundamental and the applied aspects of a heterogeneous catalytic process.
