Thickness measurement of ion irradiated specimens thinned for transmission electron microscopy

EMSL Project ID
2043

Abstract

Specimens of Fe-16Ni-15Cr were bombarded earlier with nickel ions to produce swelling. These specimens are not radioactive. The specimens will be thinned from the front surface to a depth of about 0.7 microns. A Zygo profilometer located in the EMSL building needs to be used to confirm that such a depth was reached during the thinning process prior to performing the remainder of the work on the specimens. The 1302/04/06 lab is where the profilometry equipment is located and 1321/23 is where the specimen preparation equipment is located.
