Gold Implantation and subsequent formation of Gold Nano-clusters on Glass samples

EMSL Project ID
2052

Abstract

The objective of this research is to determine if gold implantation on selected glass samples can change their optical properties. We will implant 2 MeV gold with different doses on glass samples prepared at PNNL. The implanted samples then thermally annealed to produce gold nano-clusters inside the glass. The effect of implantation (or the formation of the nano-clusters) on the optical properties of these samples will be investigated through several optical methods. Characterization of the gold nano-clusters will be carried out using Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS) and scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).
