Temperature Programmed Reaction of Nitrogen Dioxide Catylysts

EMSL Project ID
2095

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve the scientific and technical understanding of plasma-assisted catalysis (PAC) aftertreatment for heavy-duty diesel engines to meet the proposed EPA emissions targets set for the year 2008. PNNL will evaluate non-thermal plasma systems for the reduction of NOx to nitrogen from exhaust streams that are typical of those produced from a heavy-duty diesel engine. This task will focus on catalyst characterization and mechanistic understanding. Catalyst Characterization: Physical and chemical properties of the materials will be evaluated and the role of these properties on NOx reduction will be investigated. Analyses of surface adsorbed species by temperature-programmed desorption will be performed using the RXM-100 in EMSL.
