X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopic Study of Chemical Bonding and Electronic Structures of the Al2SIO5 Polymorphs

EMSL Project ID
2125

Abstract

Al2SiO5 is crystallized into three distinct polymorphs, named kyanite, andalusite, and sillimanite. Half of the Al-coordinations are 4-fold in sillimanite, 5-fold in andalusite, and 6-fold in kyanite, whereas the other half of the Al atoms are in 6-fold and Si in 4-fold coordination in all three polymorphs. Since the thermo-stability of these materials strongly depend on their chemical bonding differences and electronic structures, we are interested in learning more details about these materials.
