(emslcsd5)He Scattering on Cubic Ice and Amorphous Solid Water

EMSL Project ID
2203

Abstract

We are using molecular beam techniques and molecular dynamics to investigate the scattering and adsorption of He on cubic ice and amorphous solid water. The experimental work is being carried out in the laboratory of Bruce D. Kay at PNNL and the molecular dynamics is being carried out in collaboration with and using code developed by Hannes Jonsson at the University of Washington. Initial work using these molecular dynamics codes showed reasonable agreement with experimental results for normal incidence on cubic ice. More extensive computation is required to investigate the range of experimentally accessible energies and incident angles on cubic ice. Considerably more computational work is required on amorphous solid water to compare with the existing and future experimental data.
