Temperature Sensitive Surface from polyN-isopropylacrylamide

EMSL Project ID
2221

Abstract

PolyN-isopropylacrylamide was grafted on the surface of glass piece. The change of temperature could change the surface properties, such as from hydrophilic to hydrophobic. The modified surface can be used as in the process of anti-fouling of separation membrane. PolyN-isopropylacrylamide was attached on the surface of glass piece by chemically grafting. First, one photosensitizer was coating on the surface of glass piece, then the glass piece was mixed with the monomer, such as N-isopropylacrylamide. Under the initiation of UV light, N-isopropylacrylamide was polymerized on the surface. We need to use XPS to analyze the surface of glass piece before and after modifcation by photosensitizer and N-isopropylacrylamide. We need to use NMR to analze the structure of photosensitizer.
