Characterization of Structure of Polyvinylferrocene by NMR

EMSL Project ID
2350

Abstract

Polyvinylferrocene (PVF) is an electroactive polymer that can be used as materials for separation purpose. The redox characteristics of PVF allow it to attract or delivery ions from electrolyte solution. The membrane coated by PVF could work effectively to separate electrolytes from solution. High efficiency separation membrane will depend on structure and properties of PVF. We have already developed PVF by multiple-step organic syntheses and we need to evaluate the structure of PVF by analytic instruments. NMR is one of instruments that can work for this purpose. Proposed work will include the analysis of different organic compounds used in synthesis of PVF by H-NMR and the results would be used to choose condition of organic synthesis to achieve optimum properties of PVF.
