Proteomics of Shewanilla Onediensas
EMSL Project ID
2368
Abstract
One of the most interesting properties of the organisms Shewanella onediensis is its ability to reduce heavy metals in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. For this reason, S. onediensis is a important target organism for bioremediation research. The research at Argonne National Laboratory has focused mainly on identification of proteins by 2-Dimensional Gel Electrophoresis. The aim of this proposal is to take the same cells that have been analyzed by 2-D PAGE and extract the proteins and by mass spectrometry, determine the proteins that are expressed. These analyses will utilize the same AMT centered research methods as has been demonstrated by this lab, and the resulting proteins identified by the 2-D PAGE and the AMT generation will be compared.
