Semi-Rigid Block Copolymer

EMSL Project ID
2405

Abstract

In this project, we explore new concepts in nanoscience and nanotechnology: self-organization of semi-rigid block copolymers. Our hypothesis is that properly designed polymers can self-organize into various nano-structures like quantum dots with a size ranging from nanometer to micron sizes. The present polymers consist of two important features: a conjugated optical active region and an ethylene glycol region, which yield electronic/optical properties and solubility, respectively. The goal here is to determine whether well-defined block copolymers can be constructed with narrow molecular weight distribution.
