Abstract
The self-assembled monolayer on mesoporous support (SAMMS) materials, functionalized magnetic nanoparticles, and carbon nanotubes are three emerging important nanomaterials that have many promising applications. Our research group has focused on utilizing their unique properties for (1) removal of toxic metals and radionuclides from native waters (Hanford ground water, river water, and seawater), wastes, and biological metrics (human blood and plasma) and (2) preconcentration of metal ions at electrochemical sensors in order to increase the sensitivity of metal detection.
