Assessment of Functionalization of Gold Nanoparticles

EMSL Project ID
24817

Abstract

Gold nanoparticle cores were prepared by the citrate reduction route. To facilitate functionalization by thiols, anions were stripped from the particles, leaving behind bare gold cores. A key method for characterizing the extent of binding to incoming water-soluble thiols is XPS, which is expected to provide an assessment of gold:sulfur ratios, offering a quantitative means of comparing relative surface coverage by various thiols.
