SIMS and AES/SAM for Interfacial Characterization of Oxide Multilayers
EMSL Project ID
24823
Abstract
Corrosion resistance of candidate materials is a critical concern for their application to Generation IV nuclear systems. The corrosion behavior of Incoloy alloy 800H, ferritic-martensitic steel HCM12A,
and ferritic ODS steel (9Cr) exposed to supercritical water has being investigated. SIMS and AES/SAM
are proposed to be employed to study the interfacial phenomena within the oxide scale by identifying
the present elements and mapping their distribution. This analytical result would be helpful for
understanding the effect of alloying elements on the corrosion and the corrosion-related diffusion
and thermodynamic equilibria.
