Exchange bias in Fe/MnPd bilayers

EMSL Project ID
2507

Abstract

We are investigating the magnetic exchange bias in Fe/MnPd bilayers. The Fe layers are ferromagnetic whereas the MnPd layers are antiferromagnetic. SQUID, VSM, XMCD and neutron scattering will be used to determine the magnetic properties. In order to fully understand the magnetic properties of these structures we need to know the crystalline structure, the texture, interface roughness, structural coherence lengths, lattice parameters etc. The XRD scans we would like to perform at PNNL are the following: 1) Omega-2Theta scan 2) Rocking curve scan 3) Low angle reflectivity scan 4) Texture scan 5) Reciprocal space mapping These measurements will help us to understand the exchange bias in these samples.
