Solid Phase Characterization/Speciation of U in 300 Area Sediments-Hanford
EMSL Project ID
2536
Abstract
A new EMSL-refined, fluorescence line-narrowing technique performed in cryostat at liquid He-temperature will be used to determine U(VI) speciation in contaminated sediments. The technique provides unique spectral fingerprints of different sorbed U(VI) species at concentrations (50 ppm) below those accessible by X-ray absorption spectroscopy. Standards of 15-20 targeted U(VI) complexes and solids will be used as reference for data interpretation. Spectral fingerprinting will allow the development of mass action and kinetic models based on the concentrations of specific U(VI) chemical species in the sediment
