Photo-luminescent Properties of Quantum Dots and Dye Molecules Imbedded in Ceramic and Polymer Materials

EMSL Project ID
26198

Abstract

We propose to investigate the optical properties of quantum dots and dye molecules imbedded in organic and inorganic materials using the photo- absorption and luminescence spectroscopy techniques available in the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The absorption and luminescent emission intensity, wavelength, and quantum efficiency of quantum dots and dye molecules will be characterized upon photon-excitation. The effects of geometry (front and back excitation), film thickness, and material matrix on the luminescent properties will be elucidated through this study.
