Development of GASNet communication system on the Quadrics interconnect (emsl2631)
EMSL Project ID

Abstract
We are researching high-performance networking and parallel runtime systems to support the implementation of parallel scientific programming languages, specifically UPC and Titanium. We have a developed a compiler for each language and have a number of scientific applications running on various different high-performance supercomputing systems. We are currently working to expand our runtime system support to the Quadrics interconnect, and want access to the btc IA64/QSW cluster to continue this work. This would involve implementing and tuning the GASNet communication system on Quadrics, and eventually porting the rest of the Titanium and UPC compilers. We are especially interested in investigating the computational performance characteristics of the IA64 architecture for scientific computing and its interactions with the Quadrics interconnect. This work is supported by the PMODELS/DOE project, and is part of a collaboration with the PNNL ARMCI/Global Arrays project. We plan to share ideas and technology between the ARMCI and GASNet high-performance communication systems, cooperating to expand the effectiveness of each.
